Spring Brings Uncertain Weather
While April showers eventually bring May flowers, the torrents also often bring very wet basements. When an insured calls to report their misfortune, they typically are also looking for guidance and advice.
To assist you in answering some of those queries, we have compiled a number of the questions (and subsequent answers) most asked of our technicians when responding to an emergency water loss. Understand that in an emergency situation our primary goal is to limit your insured’s loss by drying and stabilizing their home or business as quickly as possible. Our trained and experienced technicians are evaluating the loss in order to mitigate the damage. While our crews consist of skilled tradesmen who are able to fulfill all of your reconstruction needs, these repairs are not considered part of our objective during the provision of emergency services.
How long will it take to dry?
Drying time depends on many factors:
- Equipment must be left ON during the entire drying process.
- Windows and doors must remain closed (running your central HVAC system will expedite drying)
- We must have access to property and equipment during business hours (usually between 7am—8pm, including weekends and holidays)
- We must be allowed to follow IICRC and ASCR guidelines
When the above factors are followed, drying typically takes 3-5 days. Some specialty cases may take longer to dry (i.e. hardwood floors, plaster walls, large losses, etc.).
Do you treat a sewage or “black water” loss differently?
Yes. IICRC and ASCR rules require that we follow a strict protocol to ensure that the health and safety of your family and our technicians are protected. This protocol generally involves removal and replacement of all sewage-affected materials, including carpet and drywall.

How much will the dry-down cost?
The cost depends on many factors. It is very difficult to provide an accurate estimate until your project manager is able to determine the true extent of the damage, which is only visible as the job progresses. Your project manager will, however, provide you with a copy of our general “rate schedule” and explain the typical fees incurred for your scope of work.
Will my insurance cover the loss?
Each homeowner/business owner has a different level of coverage on their property. To determine your insurance coverage for this particular claim, you must consult with your agent/broker or adjuster.

If I am covered by insurance, will they pay your fees?
You will be responsible for paying your deductible, which is similar to paying your co-payment at a doctor’s office. You may also have policy limits, which may be less than what is needed to completely restore the damaged property. Please consult your agent/broker or adjuster to determine how much your deductible and policy limits are.
How will I know when RestorePro fees get close to my policy limits?
Our project managers will work closely with you in order to keep you informed and in an attempt to avoid exceeding your policy limits, when possible.
How does RestorePro establish pricing for equipment and services?
We use the nationally recognized estimating program, Xactimate, which is trusted industry-wide by both contractors and insurance adjusters.
Do you work for me or for the insurance company?
We work directly for you, although we are always willing to work alongside your adjuster in providing the best possible service according to your insurance coverage.
